How to get there
Fly to Labuan Bajo (LBJ) from Bali (1h), Jakarta (2.5h), or Surabaya. Direct flights are cheap and frequent.
Boat options
Day trips to Komodo Island (~$80-150). 2-3 day liveaboards (~$300-600). 4-7 day Flores crossings (more adventurous, $500-1200). Phinisi boats are traditional, speedboats are fast and basic.
Komodo dragons
Komodo and Rinca islands have the dragons. Always stay with a ranger (mandatory, included in entry). Don't run — they can outrun you in short bursts. Stay 5+ meters away.
Padar Island
The iconic three-bay hike. Best at sunrise. 30 min climb. The most photographed spot in the park.
Pink Beach
One of only 7 pink-sand beaches in the world. Snorkeling is excellent right offshore. Bring reef-safe sunscreen.
When to visit
April to December (closed in Jan-March for rains). September-November is best — calm seas, clear visibility for diving.
